The Ernest label was established in 2012 by husband-wife team Todd Gottula and Erin Brooks. The couple named the brand after Todd’s paternal grandfather, Ernest Gottula, whose love for food and family inspired Todd to pursue a similar lifestyle. Todd and Erin work with approximately 15 different growers to produce 13 different wines from long-term-leased vineyard sites throughout Sonoma County. Total production hovers around 3,500 cases, which includes the single-vineyard designate wines of the Ernest label, two rosés produced under the Eugenia brand, and an experimental project called Edaphos (also known as ‘The Lab,’ producing small-lot wines that incorporate new approaches to winemaking with offbeat grapes). The wines used to be produced at a custom-crush operation called Punchdown Cellars but Erin and Todd have since built Grand Cru, their own custom crush facility. Recently completed in the summer of 2017, the facility already has fifteen clients, including Black Kite Cellars, a former CWM Wine Club offering.
