The staff at the California Wine Merchant all have different, but rather extensive wine backgrounds. We all help with the selection process of what goes in the shop, and we are happy to suggest a wine that satisfies your palate. Nate Welch Nate is the assistant manager at California Wine Merchant. Having recently recieved his Teacher Certification he is currently not practicing while he pursues his interests in wine . Brant Foehl Brant is full-time at the Wine Merchant as well as a cannonball stuntman. He hails from wine country having grown-up in Sonoma County. Brant has a Wine Certificate from the Don Kinnan International Wine Seminar and the Somelier Certificate from the California Culinary Academy. Brant's Favorites: Dumol Ryan's Vineyard Pinot Noir, Etude Carneros Pinot, Seresin Sauvignon Blanc Jay Esopenko Jay works part-time at California Wine Merchant and also owns a bar catering service and his wife, Melissa. Jay has twice survived great white attacks while skim-boardingoff the Califonia coast, and therefore has a broad knowledge of wine. He has recently completed the Court of Masters Sommelier Certificate Program in Napa. Zakk Murphy Zakk is our resident musician. With over 42 years working in the industry (Viansa and Bonny Doon) Zakk's California wine knowledge is extensive. Look out for Zakk's band The Whiskey Thieves playing around town especially at the local farmer's markets and SPCA's. Zakk's favourites: Ancien Pinot Noir, J Rose Brut Thomas Patella Tom is a seven-time runner-up at the annual World Sword Fighting Competition. In addition to his dazzling floor routine, Tom is a figure sculptor and a great shot with his shotgun. He has worked in the restaurantand wine industry in San Francisco for almost 10 years and brings experience and enthusiasm to our team! Tom's favorites: Ketcham Pinot Noir, Gia Domella Zin Ali Sperling Ali has the imagination of a child that has been locked in a box in the woods for a week. Ali's interests include Oakland A's baseball as well as the geneology of ancient mythical creatures. She is currently a graduate student at SF State getting her Masters in Literature. She has endured 7 years in the service industry giving her the gifted palate she now has. Ali's favorites: The Offering, Artesa Merlot
